10. Salvation
The only way sinners can be rescued[1] from God’s coming wrath[2] and reconciled to enjoy a personal relationship with God[3] is by God’s grace alone, [4] in Jesus Christ alone, [5] and through faith alone.[6] Salvation is totally by God’s grace[7] because it is a gift[8] that God planned,[9] provided, [10] and offers to every sinner.[11] No sinner deserves[12] or earns this gift by their good deeds.[13] Salvation is accomplished[14] solely through Jesus Christ’s life, death, and resurrection.[15] His perfect life[16] allows His righteousness to be transferred[17] to sinners so they can meet God’s requirement of perfect righteousness[18] to enter His Kingdom.[19] His sacrificial death[20] on the cross offered His perfect blood[21] as the full payment for the sins of the entire world[22] required to satisfy God’s justice and wrath against sin.[23] His victorious resurrection[24] proved that He is the only way sinners can overcome sin and death.[25] Salvation is received completely on the basis of faith[26] that turns to God[27] and away from sin.[28] Genuine belief[29] involves repentance[30] and faith that trusts[31] in Jesus Christ’s life, death, and resurrection to receive righteousness, [32] forgiveness, [33] and eternal life.[34] Salvation is a covenant[35] where a sinner comes to Jesus for salvation,[36] asks Him to be their Lord,[37] and commits [38]to follow Jesus Christ as His slave.[39] The moment this covenant of faith occurs in the heart, [40] God declares the sinner righteous and justified,[41] forgiven all their sins,[42] and adopted as a child belonging to Him.[43] Salvation is guaranteed[44] by the indwelling Holy Spirit[45] who causes believers to be born again[46] to enjoy new life now[47] and eternal life later.[48] Salvation is recognized[49] by a changed life[50] that loves the Lord[51] and is growing in obedience[52] to the Lord’s commands.[53] Salvation is secure[54] and cannot be lost[55] or forfeited[56] because God is the author[57] and finisher of salvation.[58]
